What an Interior Design Consultation Really Includes, and Why It Matters

Over the years, I’ve had the honor of designing dozens of spaces for children and families — each one filled with emotion, purpose, and deep intentionality. One of the most requested services is the Interior Design Consultation. But lately, I’ve realized there’s a bit of confusion around what a consultation is... and what it isn’t.
So let’s clear that up, with warmth and honesty.
What is a design consultation?
A consultation is a professional exchange of time, expertise, and ideas. It’s your opportunity to:
Share your vision
Walk me through the space
Discuss challenges, needs, and goals
Receive a curated report with moodboards, product suggestions, and layout guidance
The consultation is not the final design. It’s the seed.
You walk away with a foundational concept, created just for you, that you can either continue on your own or build on together in future phases.
What’s included in my consultation package:
A 1-hour in-person visit (including travel time)
A Report of the visit, an analysis of your taste buds in design, and if you want to go the extra step? a mood board.
💡 All of this is crafted by the designer not AI, not templates, and always tailored with care.
What’s not included (unless you book the next phase):
Product selections and boards, with different options / choices.
3D visualizations or architectural drawings
Technical layouts with measurements or render-ready plans
Contractor coordination or product ordering
Unlimited edits or full sourcing (These are part of my design execution packages, which are priced and scoped separately).
Why this matters
Interior design is not just about pretty things! It’s about translating lifestyle into space. And like any service-based profession, time, energy, and experience have value.
A consultation gives you access to years of expertise distilled into a focused, helpful experience. It’s not a “try before you buy.” It’s a service of its own. Thoughtful, thorough, and complete.

Designers are not here to prove themselves. We’re not here to convince anyone to be kind. We’re here to hold space, solve problems, and create beauty, when the energy is right.
