Moving? Rented Apartment? Read this first.

So, if you have been following me on any of my social media accounts, you would know that I am moving from one apartment to another. Both rentals, I've downsized a little, so nothing fancy is currently happening. (no flexing, lol)

But I know I am not alone in this, actually there is a whole community where I am living and most of these people have a similar living situation to me.

And I know it doesn't stop here, like imagine how many people are actually living in the city in rented apartments so one day they can afford their own house.

I am writing this right now so I can share with you my very fresh experience of moving, things to consider if you are moving, and helpful interior design tips (especially if you are downsizing & moving to rented apartment.)

1- Research moving companies, and their insurance policy, and book them in advance.

2- Pack your stuff yourself: this is what I didn't do and I'm still regretting this, the packers aren't familiar with your stuff, and what you need and do not need, so by all means, take your time and pack yourself.

3- De-clutter before you move: categorize items in 4 different piles: keep, sell, giveaway, and throw.

4- Sell items that fit the following description:

a) items you don't have space for in the new place

b) items you don't feel attached to anymore, but they are still in a good shape

c) stuff that you've kept for months and haven't used

5- Do not buy storage units yet trust me on this one, when you move you will have a clear idea of the amount of stuff that you own, and you will be able to make a better decision on the shape, size, and specification of the storage unit that you might need.

Checklist for when you are moving:

For you:

☐ Pack an Outfit change, AND pajamas

☐ Pack Toothbrushes and toothpaste

☐ Pack your everyday skincare products (face wash, toner, moisturizer, eye cream).

☐ Pack your shower products (deodorant, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, soap)

For your new home:

☐ Pack Fresh Bed Sheets, duvet covers and pillow covers.

☐ Pack Cleaning Materials: anti-bacterial wipes, (or spray) a mop and any cleaning products that you might need.

☐ Extra lighting sources (in case you need to light up a space that you will work on later)

As an Interior design, I am excited to start fresh, so I did sell few pieces, so I can create a calmer atmosphere but I wanted to share with you my planning process, things I kept, and how I am starting off fresh.

And I am sharing this process in video format, so let me know if you have any questions, will be more than happy to answer you!

Much love to you,

Aseel
